Ararat Correctional Centre

Phillips Smith Conwell in association with Guymer Bailey Architects were engaged as Architect in the refurbishment of the Ararat & Langi Kal Kal Prisons. The services provided included master planning and the expansion of the existing facilities at both of these sites.

The Master Planning process was undertaken to determine the future opportunities for the Ararat Regional Priosn—a medium security prison which had housed primarily prisoners from a range of sex-related offences. The typical population for the prison was changing and the intention was to upgrade the prison to a higher classification. Following completion of the Master Planning, the design and documentation of the first stage of the expansion included cell accommodation and associated facilities.
